Entrepreneurship and enterprise skills ‘vital’ for all students, says Minister

How can we incorporate entrepreneurship and enterprise skills into our education system? That is the question educators, policy-makers and students discussed at the recent ACE (Accelerating Campus Entrepreneurship) Conference at Farmleigh House in Dublin.

Following a report from the Entrepreneurship Forum in January in which the need for a National Education Strategy for Entrepreneurship – from primary level to tertiary level – was advised, the ACE Conference concluded that equipping students with entrepreneurial skills will give them a clear advantage in the workplace.

‘Entrepreneurship and Enterprise skills are vital resources for young people in the modern era and it needs to be firmly embedded into our education system,’ said Denis Cummins, President of Dundalk Institute of Technology.

Eight Higher Education Institutes (HEIs) have worked collaboratively to develop a strategy to embed entrepreneurship in education and to date 17 HEIs have participated in the National Entrepreneurship Educators Programme.

‘These skills are vital, not just for business students, but all students as we strive to have “entrepreneurial graduates” across all disciplines,’ said Minister for Education and Skills Ruairi Quinn.
